Location: About 25 miles west of Payson. From Cortes Junction continue north on I-17 to the Dugas Exit. Salt Flat Trailhead is located 18.4 miles east on Dugas Rd / FR 68
Accessibility/Parking (Volkswagon Golf or Jeep Cherokee): You have to drive about 20 miles on a dirt road, and a "Jeep" would be better suited.
Challenge Level (1: A female in her late 20's in decent shape thought it was easy as pie to 5: Gonna need a forklift to help me finish this): The difficulty of the hike was a 2, the drive in was more difficult than the hike.
Best Time: To avoid the heat/cold, I would recommend the spring or fall.
Overall Rating (1: Wouldn't recommend 2: Bleh 3: Fun but wouldn't do it again 4: Loved it 5: A favorite, must plan return trip immediately): This was great for forest camping and ease of hiking. My rating would be a 4, only because it took some time to get here on the dirt road.
