Location: Off Highway 87 about 30 miles south of Payson
Accessibility/Parking (Volkswagon Golf or Jeep Cherokee): You will need a "Jeep Cherokee" for this one. Both our friends had SUV's and it was an extremely rough, rocky ride to get to where we started the trail.
Challenge Level (1: A female in her late 20's in decent shape thought it was easy as pie to 5: Gonna need a forklift to help me finish this): In May it was pretty warm and the hike in was mostly uphill. I would give it a 2 or 3.
Best Time: Probably would be best in late spring or early fall.
Overall Rating (1: Wouldn't recommend 2: Bleh 3: Fun but wouldn't do it again 4: Loved it 5: A favorite, must plan return trip immediately): I would rate this area overall a 3. It was a fun time, and finding the mine at the end was worth it. Due to the difficulty in accessing the trail and distance I wouldn't find it appealing enough to do it again. Although that could be because I'm not a guy who loves off-roading, and I do get carsick :)
